125 Days to go - 11 mile challenge
Route #8
Duration : 1 hr 36 min 43 sec
Energy : 1278 KCal
Distance : 11.2 miles
Max HR : 154 Bpm
Av HR : 148 Bpm
Mile pace : 8:38 min/mile
Call me impatient, impulsive or obsessive but I have been stewing over how fast I could have run Saturday's distance at a higher level of effort. I know that I had chosen to run at an easy pace, but that pace, coming in at nearly 10 min a mile, would put me well over my 4 hour target on race day. With this in mind I decided to tackle the same run at the next level of effort - the challenging zone.
As you can see from the performance data upping my heart rate by 13 beats per minute quickened my pace by more than a minute a mile, knocking almost 15 min off Saturday's time. I must admit that this did get to be pretty tough after about 9 miles but it has also reassured me that my sub 4 hour target is achievable.

Well Richard, it would seem to me that your data is flawed! I think that if you documented the number of alcohol units consumed at your, what seem now to be regular, binges - those of us with an A level in Statistics would be able to extrapolate and determine that it is not the extra heartbeats that are improving your performance, but the burning off of the excess alcohol.
