Local Loops and stiffer legs

I seem to be able to manage the three miles at a gentle jog now. Quite pleasing really when I think of what a muddle I was in on Tuesday. The body is truly an amazing thing, now if only my legs were not quite so stiff I could almost say I was happy with the days exertions.

Parham Airfield loop

During the time I was not training, my running buddy has moved house, so today's route was a new one on me. Just as well really, the fresh views kept my mind off the shocking state my cardio-vascular system has got into lately. We survived a potentially nasty incident with a couple of collies and completed the 3 miles in a little faster pace than I managed yesterday. I was blowing at the end and could not have gone further.
Can I say a big thank you to Christina for putting up with me, it must be hard putting up with such a pathetic man for a running partner.

Local Loops and stiff legs

It was still really hard today, but at least I did not feel that I was about to have a heart attack after 2 miles. Yesterday's experience let me know what to expect at least and I made a concious effort to keep my pace as slow as possible. My Garmin HR monitor and cadence sensor are both out of battery power so there are no extra stats to go with this run, probably a good thing as I expect my heart was red lining for the whole run. Got pins and needles and the full flashing eye thing towards the end, but I ran the whole way. Struggled to get down the stairs after my shower though, I had forgotten how stiff legs can get.

What a difference a half year makes!

As is immediately obvious from the content and date of the previous few posts in this blog, I am pretty good at self-deception! I sound enthusiastic and ready to train then ... zip, nada, nothing for seven months! Truth be told, I reckon that I knew I had had enough of running for a while and secretly planned to have a couple of months off. About the time I was thinking of starting again I got the news that I had missed out on the London ballot again and all enthusiasm melted away. I did do a few runs in November but never logged them here. So, after a seven month break, when Christina tempted me out for a run today it came as no surprise that I was out of shape. After just a couple of miles I felt like I had run a marathon. It has been a wake up call, and I have resolved to get my fitness back. I would not mind loosing the 5 kg of fat round my middle either.
